AMD Proprietary Linux Release Notes
This
release note provides information on the latest posting of AMD's
Proprietary Linux driver. This particular driver updates the software
version to 8.532.

| Note:
AMD has accepted contributed packaging scripts to allows creation of
other packages, but does not necessarily test, verify or warrant the
reliability. Currently Red Hat Enterprise Linux suite and Novell/SuSE
product suite are supported Linux distributions |
System Requirements
Before attempting to install the Catalyst™ Linux software suite, the following software must be installed:
- XOrg 6.8, 6.9, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2 or 7.3
- Linux Kernel 2.6 and above
- glibc version 2.2 or 2.3
- POSIX Shared Memory (/dev/shm) support is required for 3D applications
The
Catalyst™ Linux software suite no longer provides precompiled Kernel
Modules; all installations require GCC compiler and kernel-headers or
kernel-source in order to enable 2D and 3D acceleration.
For best performance and ease of use, AMD recommends the following:
- Kernel module build environment - should include the following:
- Kernel source code: Either the Kernel Source or Kernel Headers packages
- The
rpm utility should be installed and configured correctly on your
system, if you intend to install via RPM packages
The following packages must be installed in order for the Catalyst™ Linux driver to install and work properly:
- XFree86-Mesa-libGL
- libstdc++
- libgcc
- XFree86-libs
- fontconfig
- freetype
- zlib

The
following section provide a brief description of resolved issues with
the latest version of the ATI Catalyst™ Linux software suite. These
include:
· A
fatal server error no longer occurs when changing the display
resolution using Catalyst Control Center Linux Edition and restarting

· Catalyst
Control Center Linux Edition: Clicking on the 3D leaf in Page Tree no
longer results in 3D Page Tree failing to respond. Further details can

· Catalyst
Control Center Linux Edition: A green box at the bottom of the page the
TV and Position page is no longer displayed. Further details can be

· Default
buttons are no longer available in the Catalyst Control Center for

· HDMI
Audio support for the Linux Operating system is now available for the

· Hot
plugging a digital panel to an ATI Radeon HD 46x0 series product no

· X-Windows
no longer fails to launch after the driver installation for the ATI

· Rebooting
the system after completing the driver installation no longer results

32-bit: The operating system mail fail to respond when pressing
“Ctrl+Alt+F7/F8” to switch sessions when “fgl_glxgears” is running.

8.1: Running the standard DPPT tests may intermittently result in RHEL
5.2 operating system failing to respond on systems containing an ATI

· Poor

a video file under X may result in the player displaying a blank image

· Setting the display resolution to 1600x600 on a system running SUSE 10.3

· Entering
a standby state while running a 3D application may result in desktop
