ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT 벤치와 관련한 소식

엇그제 AMD-ATi의 신제품과 관련해서 튀니지에서 제품 발표회가 있었는데.. 제품과 관련해서 몇가지 알려진 소식을 정리해보면 다음과 같다.

XT 의 스펙은 320개의 스트림 프로세서를 갖으며 Geforce 8800GTS와 경쟁, NVIDIA와는 전혀 다른 통합쉐이더 방식 512MB의 GDDR3 메모리 동작 클럭은 1.65Ghz이며 512비트 8채널 메모리 인터페이스(듀얼 링버스구조로 1024비트..)

 ATi 의 경우 드라이버로 인한 성능 개선이 상당히 활발히 이루어 지는 제품의 특성과 R600의 경우 Vista에 비해 XP의 드라이버가 완성도가 떨어진다는걸 생각했을때 상당히 희망적인 벤치마크 결과인거 같고 OpenGL의 경우는 비교 대상이 일반 VGA가 아닌 워크스테이션용 쿼드로 라는점에서 상당히 놀라운 결과가-.-;;; X1K부터 OpenGL에 신경을 좀더 쓰기 시작하더니 이번엔 정말 대단한 놈을 만들어 낸거 같음.. 기존의 OpenGL드라이버를 버리고 완전히 새로 디자인된 드라이버가 이정도 일줄이야..; X1K도 연말쯤엔 XP와 Linux에 새로 디자인된 드라이버가 도입될 예정이라던데 왠지 벌써부터 기대가됨.. R600 기반 FireGL도 이번에는 시장에서 꽤 큰 반향을 일으킬 녀석이 나와줄거 같고.. 여튼 이걸 보니.. 필 로저스 아자씨가 기다린 보람이 있을거라던 말이 떠오르는 소식이었음..

최근의 AMD-ATi에 대한 단상

(AMD-ATi 그래픽 카드를 이용한 Folding@HOME)


 왠지 요즘의 AMD-ATi를 보고 있자면 '아직 기존의 제품으로도 할게 남았다고~' 라고 외치는거 같아서 안쓰럽기까지.. 뭐 AMD와 ATi의 통합에 대한 실질적인 결과물도 아직 나오지 않은 상태에서 경쟁사인 인텔과 엔비디아가 이때다 싶어서 인지 공격적으로 나와버리니 양쪽에서 원투펀치를 맞고있는 상황이라 안습일 따름.. --;

 여하튼 인텔은 기존의 펜티엄4 넷버스트 아키텍쳐를 버리고 기존의 P3의 개량형 아키텍쳐라고 소문난 코어2로 요즘 엄청난 주가를 달리고 있으니.. 근데 참 대단하다고 생각되는게 애슬론64가 사람들 인식처럼 그렇게 못쓸 CPU는 아니라는거.. 개인적으론 아직도 코어2에 조금 밀리긴 해도 거의 동급이라고 생각.. 최근 동일 공정인 65nm 공정으로 넘어가면서 격차는 좀더 좁혀진.. 더군다나 요즘 가격적인 면에서는 월등히 앞선다고 생각됨.. 추가로 64비트 컴퓨팅 분야의 경우는 AMD쪽이 먼저 손을 대서 그런지 M$도 그렇고 오픈소스쪽도 그렇고 AMD에 대체로 최적화 하는 경향인거 같음..
 
 엔비디아의 경우 8x00 계열로 요즘 시장을 거의 장악하다 시피 했는데.. 역시 엔비댜는 장사 수완이 탁월하다는 생각이 많이 듬.. 지금 형태로 봐선 분명 만들다가 한계에 부딛혀서 딱 동작 가능한 선에서 타협을 한걸 출시한거 같은데.. ATi의 경우는 이런게 좀 약하다고 해야하나.. 근데 둘다 똑같이 플레이 해버리면 기술 혁신보단 적당한 제품들만 양산되서 업체간의 특징이 사라져 버릴거 같음--; 그렇게되면 ATi를 사용하는 의미가 점점더 퇴색되어 버릴거 같다는 느낌도 들고.. 여튼 분발해서 다시 시장의 균형을 찾아오길 바라고 있음..

 AMD- ATi의 앞으로의 행보를 보자면.. 일단 자사 단일 플렛폼(CPU, GPU, 칩셋)을 준비(아직은 조금 융합이 덜된 느낌..)하고 있고 이에대한 통합 드라이버와 통합 UI지원 그리고 언젠가 리눅스용 VGA드라이버 소스 일부 공개한다고 하더니 오픈소스쪽 지원도 꽤 강화 하는거 같고.. 내년에는 Fusion과 같은 CPU + GPU 형태의 제품을 준비에다가.. GPU의 범용 스트림프로세싱에 활용이나 물리연산에서 활용이라던가.. 그러고보니 물리연산의 경우 X1K부터 지원하기 시작해서 X1600이상 부터(이하 제품은 처리 능력이 떨어져서 고려하지 않는 분위기던-.-)는 아마 나중에 VGA용 PCI-E 슬롯이 3개 이상 달린(Xpress3200에 사용된 RD580도 스펙상 3개까지 지원 가능하다고 알고 있음) 보드에선 물리 연산 카드로 사용이 가능할거 같던데.. 거기다가 3D 가속 수행중에 퍼포먼스에 영향을 주지 않는 한도내의 물리연산을 동시 수행하는 것도 도입 중이고(R600의 경우 이부분을 많이 활용할 것으로 보임) 여튼 참 재미있는 시도들을 많이 하는거 같음.. 올해는 참 힘든 시기가 될것 같고.. 올해를 잘 버티면 내년에는 뭔가 가시적인 결과물들이 속속 보일거 같은데.. 대부분의 소비자들은 이런것엔 관심이 없다는게 참 안습한 상황이고.. 개인적으로 생각하기에 현재 AMD 제품 소비 증가의 발목을 잡는 요소중 가장 큰 문제인 제대로된 메인보드도 업체들이 출시를 좀 해줬으면 하는 바램이 있음-_-+(ASUS보드 가격이랑 보드 스펙보면 욕밖에 안나오던..)

Known Issues Under the Windows Vista Operating System

This section provides information on known issues associated with the ATI Catalyst™ Vista RTM driver for both the 32bit and 64bit versions of the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. These include:

  • Doom3/Quake 4: Setting the in game options for Video Quality to Medium and Screen Size to 1024x768 may result in display corruption being noticed when setting AA to 4x. Further details can be found in topic number 737-25802. Resolved in 8.37
  • Homeworld2: Setting the game options to default and starting a single player game may result in display corruption being noticed. Further details can be found in topic number 737-26692
  • IL2 Sturmovik->Forgotten Battles: Setting the in-game hardware options to custom and landscape detail to perfect may result in the water textures appearing corrupt when playing the game under the Windows Vista operating system. Further details can be found in topic number 737-26687
  • NHL 07: The in-game display settings may fail to be applied when playing the game under the Windows Vista operating system when using a supported ATI Radeon™ product. Further details can be found in topic number 737-23549
  • Quake 4/Serious Sam: Attempting to launch the games with AA set to 2x or higher and the Catalyst™ Control Center->Advanced View->3D preview running in the background may result in the operating system failing to respond. Further details can be found in topic number 737-26690. Fixed in 8.361

  • In the Catalyst™ Control Center, the Help buttons drop down box appear towards left side of the window instead of right side for some languages on certain hardware configurations. Further details can be found in topic number 737-27089
  • In some Cross Fire configurations, enabling CrossFire™ automatically but incorrectly enables 'Triple Buffering' and disables 'Support DXT texture format' in 3D->More Settings. Further details can be found in topic number 737-27090

Theater 200 스펙

기존의 Radeon에는 Rage Theater 칩셋이 사용 되었었는데.. 이번 R600 계열부터는 Theater 200칩셋으로 업그레이드 되는걸로 확인 되었으며 칩셋의 기능에 대해 간략한 정리를 위해(R600 프리뷰의 보강) 이글을 작성하게 되었다.

 R600 의 경우 HDMI 출력을 기본으로 지원하는 것으로 알려져있으며 거기에 추가로 Xilleon 멀티미디어 프로세서가 R600부터 GPU에 내장 되었다고 알려져있다. 아마도 이와같은 기능을 좀더 활용하기 위해서 Theater 200 으로 칩셋을 업그레이드 한것으로 보이며 All-in-Wonder 시리즈의 생산 중단과 맞물려서 기존의 All-in-Wonder 시리즈의 기능을 앞으로 VGA카드와 TV튜너의 조합으로 완벽히 구현 할려는 의도로 보인다. 개인적으로 R600 제품들의 출시 시기와 맞춰 연동되는 확장 카드 같은 제품이 나오지 않을까 하는 예상도 하고있다.

AMD R600 로드맵 업데이트


"R580의 두배의 퍼포먼스" - from AMD..


X2900XTX, X2900XT 그리고 X2900XL 앞으로 출시될 AMD의 R600 시리즈의 상세 로드맵에 대한 정보가 공개되었습니다.


최 상위 제품인 X2900XTX(코드네임 Dragons Head2, 9.5" 사이즈, GDDR4 메모리 구성)는 2007년 3월 30일 시장에 공개될 예정이지만 아직 확정된건 아닙니다. AMD의 파트너들에게 샘플은 이미 지난주 전달 되었고 다수의 업체들은 CeBIT에 전시된 R600의 실시간 데모를 볼 수 있을것입니다. Radeon X2900XT( 코드네임 Cats Eye, 역시 9.5" 사이즈, GDDR3 메모리를 갖으며 XTX에 비해 15% 다운클럭)는 4월 19일 시장에 공개될 것입니다. Dragon Head2는 이미 순조롭게 생산에 들어갔으며 AIB 파트너에게 지금부터 몇일 이내에 배송될 것입니다. 수많은 리비젼을 거친후 AMD는 마침내 양호한 물건을 얻은걸로 보이며 AMD는 제품 생산에 만족하였다고 합니다. - Rev90 이 바로 그것입니다..


첫 제품인 Dragon Head는 12.4"의 사이즈로 여전히 길며 OEM과 시스템 벤더에한해 계속 판매될 것 입니다. AMD는 4월 즈음에 클럭을 낮추고 512MB의 GDDR3 메모리를 갖는 제품또한 발매할 것 입니다. Radeon X2900XTX는 좀더 빠른 2000Mhz 이상의 클럭에 내부 1024bit의 버스 그리고 512bit의 물리적 메모리 인터페이스의 1GB의 GDDR4 메모리를 사용할 것입니다.


Dragon Head2는 당초 예상과는 달리 최고 240와트에 달하는 전력을 소모하게 될 것입니다. 만약 당신이 CrossFire에 관심이 있다면 단지 당신의 그래픽 카드만으로 총 450와트의 전력이 소모되며 이미 시장에 1000와트 이상의 파워서플라이가 있는걸 보면 그다지 놀랄만한 것도 아닙니다. 전원은 1x6핀, 1x8핀 그리고 PCIE 접속을 통해 공급되며 쿨러는 듀얼 슬롯을 사용하게 됩니다.
