AMD Giuseppe Amato와의 인터뷰

DriverHeaven의 인터뷰 내용을 적당히 정리하였습니다..

Giuseppe Amato 씨는 EMEA(유럽, 중동, 아프리카)지역의 세일즈와 마케이팅 부문 기술 감독이라고 합니다.

1. 인텔의 코어2 듀오 플렛폼의 전반적인 성공에 대한 대책은?

08 년 1/4분기 모바일 플렛폼인 푸마를 준비중, 데스크탑의 경우 피넘의 지속적인 클럭주파수 증가와 성능 향상이 있을 것이고 현재 경쟁자의 경우 CPU의 Ghz 증가에 주력인 반면 AMD는 CrossfireX와 같은 청사진(취소 되는줄 알았던 멀티 CPU 플렛폼 부활?)을 사용자들은 볼 수 있을거라고.. 더불어 AMD의 입장은 CPU와 GPU의 가치를 동등하게 생각한다는 의견(최근 CPU부문의 부진 때문에 이런 말을 덧붙인듯--;)..

2. 피넘의 출시 지연(X2, X3 제품들 이야기인듯..)과 관련하여 최근 DDR3 기반 칩의 출시와 편승해 DDR2 제품을 뛰어 넘을 계획은 없나?

계획에 대한 변경은 없을 것이고 DDR3는 2009년 지원 예정이라고 함

3. 인텔을 따라잡기 위해 지난 시간동안 노력했고 또한 꽤 괜찮은 녀석을 내놓았지만 여전히 인텔을 압도하진 못하는 문제점과 계속해서 신제품을 내놓는 인텔을 따라잡을 묘안이 다음 세대의 제품이 나오기 전에 있나?

인 텔과 AMD는 서로 고객에게 제공하는 가치가 다르며 인텔이 기존의 AMD가 이룬 기술들을 모방하고 Ghz와 nm에만 초점을 맞춘 반면 AMD는 통합 플렛폼(CPU, GPU, 칩셋)에 초점을 맞추고 있으며 앞으로 출시될 푸마, 하드케슬, 카트휠 같은 플렛폼을 통해 선보일 예정이고 이는 인텔이 GPU 분야에서 성능과 호환성에서 뒤떨어 지기 때문에 이런 집약된 기술이 고객에게 혁신을 가져다 줄 것이라고..

Enthusiast(Extreme한 하이엔드 유저를 지칭-.-;) 부문도 물론 첫째로 생각하고 있다는 말도 덧붙인..(최근 최상위 제품군에서 삽질을 면치 못하는 것에 대한 변명인가--;)

4. 독립 그래픽 카드와 내장 칩셋의 Hybrid Crossfire의 지원으로 로우엔드 마켓의 현재 판도를 바꿀수 있을것인가?

2008 년에는 Crossfire에 대한 수요가 매우 많을 것으로 예상하고 있으며 내장 그래픽을 사용하는 유저들에게는 사용하지 않을 수 없게 만드는 매력적인 솔루션이 될것이고 50-75$의 약소한 투자로 DX10 게임에서 충분히 플레이 가능한 프레임을 보여 줄 것이고 모바일 마켓에서도 강한 요구가 있을거라고(한때 이야기 나왔던 외장형 크파도 나올려는듯한 뉘앙스;;). 이와 함께 이는 경쟁사에서는 아직 제공하지 않는 AMD만의 특별한 기능이라고..

5. 쿼드 크파는 문서상으로는 정말 대단하지만 4개의 그래픽 카드를 함께 사용하는건 개발자 측면에서도 사용자 설치 측면에서도 문제가 있을걸로 보이는데 좀더 상위카드 2개만 사용하면 되는것을 4개나 써야하는 이유는 있는건지?

이 는 기존의 시스템보다 좀더 많은 업그레이드와 관련한 선택권을 주기 위한 것이고 이와 관련한 개발자들의 작업 또한 필요한건 사실이지만 앞으로 출시될 단일 보드상의 멀티 GPU를 사용한 R680과 같은 제품을 통해 멀티 GPU 기술이 점점 개발자 커뮤니티를 잠식해 가도록 할 것이라고.. 덧붙여 이부분에 있어 AMD는 꽤 유능한 드라이버 팀을 보유하고 있다는 언급을..

6. 최근 AM2+의 하이엔드 보드의 가격(예를들어 Gigabytes GA-MA790FX-DQ6 와 같은)이 CPU의 가격과 맞먹는건 AMD가 의도한 바인지 아니면 좀더 저렴한 제품이 나오길 바라는건지?

이 는 790FX 보드의 구성과 관련한 문제이며 이런 프리미엄 보드는 Enthusiast를 위해 디자인 되어있고 오버클럭과 4GPU 슬롯을 제공하지만 08년 초에 2개의 GPU 슬롯을 가진 좀더 저렴한 790X보드를 볼 수 있을거라고.

7. 동일 가격대의 경쟁사의 제품 대신 피넘(예를 들면 Phenom 9500 vs Q6600 95w)을 선택해야 하는 이유라면 무었이 있다고 보는가?

앞 으로 스파이더 플렛폼에 앞으로 제공될 것들(커스터마이징, 업그레이드, 확장성 등에서 다양한 이점이 있다고 언급-_-; 개인적인 예상으로 Catalyst 통합 프로젝트도 많이 진행 됐을듯한..)에 대한 언급과 실질적으로 전문 벤치마커가 아닌이상 경쟁사의 제품과 거의 비슷한 성능을 제공하기 때문이라는 의견(결국 성능이 좀 떨어져도 쓸만하다 인듯-,.-)..

8. 트리플 코어 제품이 시장 판도를 바꿀수 있다고 생각하는가? 쿼드와 트리플중 어떤 제품이 더 많이 팔릴거라고 보나?

트 리플 코어는 쿼드코어에 대한 보완이며 이는 시장에서 경쟁사가 채울 수 없는 부분을 매꿔줄 것이며 Xbox 360이 트리플 코어 CPU를 아주 잘 사용하는 것 같이 게임 개발자들 또한 트리플 코어의 이용에 매우 익숙하다는 것을 기억해야 한다는 의견..

9. 790 칩셋은 메모리 구성에 있어서 Ganged와 Unganged(묶음과 풀림?-_-;) 모드를 지원하는데 현재 AMD가 추천하는건 어떤 방식(다양한 작업에 대해)이며 설정을 계속 유지 하는 것이 좋은지 아니면 상황이나 어플리케이션 개발에 따라 바꿔주는 것이 좋은것인가?

Ganged와 Unganged 모드는 Phenom의 기능이지 790FX칩셋의 기능이 아니며 Ganged의 경우 시스템 메모리 버스를 128비트의 넓은 단일 채널로 사용하는 모드이며 K8 아키텍쳐에서 사용하는 방식과 같고 Unganged의 경우 Phenom에서 제공되는 새로운 기능인데 이는 128비트의 채널을 독립된 두개의 64비트 채널로 운용(이건 왠지 Xx00에서 X1K로 넘어갈때 채널당 메모리 인터페이스 변경한거에서 힌트를 얻은듯한--;)하는 방식이라고함.

Ganged의 경우 단일 쓰레드 어플리케이션이나 벤치마크에서 유리하고 Unganged의 경우 그밖의 대부분의 경우(쓰레드 수의 증가와 작업량의 증가시)에 유리한 방식이라고함..

이는 Phenom의 경우 멀티코어이고 단일 코어 이상의 작업에는 Unganged가 유리하기 때문에 기본 설정으로 Unganged를 추천하며 일부 마더보드 제조사의 경우 CMOS에서 이부분을 선택할 수 있도록 지원하고 있다고함.

AMD 트리플코어 Phenom 3월 출시

마더보드 제조사들의 소식통에 의하면 AMD는 최근 트리플코어 Phenom의 모델넘버와 출시일을 조정하고 있다고합니다.

3 월 중 B2 스테핑의 트리플 코어 Phenom 8600, 8400을 출시할 예정이며 2분기에는 3개의 추가적인 모델인 8700, 8650, 8450이 출시될 것이라고 합니다. 8400과 8600은 각각 2.1Ghz, 2.3Ghz의 코어 동작 주파수를 갖을 것 이며 8700은 2.4Ghz의 클럭을 갖게 될 것입니다. 8650과 8450은 B3 스테핑을 갖으며 각각 2.3Ghz, 2.1Ghz의 주파수를 갖고 앞서 언급한 5종류의 CPU는 모두 95W의 TDP를 갖습니다.

트리플 코어 CPU의 출시는 경쟁사간의 가격 다운을 야기 하겠지만 소비자에게 있어 좀더 폭넓은 선택권을 제공할 것입니다.

AMD, Commex와 칩셋 부문 협력시작

Commex의 솔루션이 멀티코어 프로세서의 퍼포먼스 도약을 제공할 것으로..

이스라엘에서 시작한 Commex는 아직 시제품은 하나도 없지만 어쨌든 이는 중요한 계약입니다. 최근까지 RAD 그룹 산하에서 운영되어 오던 이 칩 제조사는 아직 미완성 상태에서 거대 칩 제조사인 AMD와의 합작에 동의를 이끌어 냈습니다. 거래 상으로 Commex는 멀티코어 프로세서를 위한 칩셋을 개발하며 이는 AMD의 프로세서 솔루션들과 광범위한 부분을 함께합니다.

Commex의 중요성은 연간 수천만 달러에 이르는 강력한 미래의 수입원이 될 잠재력을 가지고 있다는 것이며 5월부터 지속적인 생산에 들어갈 것으로 보입니다.

Ubuntu 7.10 Gusty Gibbon + ATi Mobility X1400 + Compiz

이번에 릴리즈된 Catalyst 7.12 리눅스 에디션을 설치하면서 7.11부터 지원하긴 했지만 귀찮아서 설치하지 않았던 Compiz를 설치해 봤는데.. 은근히 가지고 노는 재미가 있어서 포스팅 합니다.. --;; 일단 드라이버 설치는 다음의 비공식 위키에서 아주 상세히 다루고 있기 때문에 설치 방법과 관련한 자료는 다음의 위키를 참고하시길 바라면서 패스--;;

일단 설치하면 다음과 같은 제어판을 볼 수 있습니다.

아직까지는 윈도에서 지원하는 만큼의 지원이 되고있지는 않지만 예전의 FireGL 드라이버를 기억하는 분이라면 장족의 발전이라는걸 한눈에 알아볼 수 있는 변화된 모습+_+

일단 설치가 완료되면 이제 기본적인 Compiz의 기능은 활성화가 가능한 상태이고 이제 좀더 커스터마이징 가능한 패키지들을 설치해야할 차례 입니다.

시스템 >> 관리 >> 시냅틱 꾸러미 관리자 를 실행한 후 편집항목의 검색을 이용해서 Compiz로 검색을 하게되면 다음과 같은 패키지가 눈에 띌 것 입니다.

기본적으로 체크는 되어있지 않지만 설치후에 찍은 스샷이라 이미 설치된 상태로 표시된 이미지 입니다.. 위의 세가지 패키지를 설치하겠다고 선택하면 의존성과 관련한 패키지는 모두 설치되게 되며 시스템 >> 기본 설정 항목에 이와 관련한 메뉴가 3개 추가된게 확인 될 것입니다. 설치가 완료된 후 남은 작업으로는 취향껏 주물러 주시는 일만 남게됩니다..--;

There is no support for video playback on the second head in dual head mode. Further details can be found in topic number 737-26985

Desktop corruption may be noticed when dragging the overlay/video when using dual-display mode. Further details can be found in topic number 737-29578

A black screen may be observed on some hardware when switching to the console or leaving the X window system when a Vesa framebuffer console driver is used. Further details can be found in topic number 737-30687

Corruption may be noticed in the lower right corner of the display after the system is running for a long period of time

TrueType font support. These functions allow PPR to generate PostScript fonts from Microsoft compatible TrueType font files.

The functions in this file do most of the work to convert a TrueType font to a type 3 PostScript font.

Most of the material in this file is derived from a program called "ttf2ps" which L. S. Ng posted to the usenet news group "comp.sources.postscript". The author did not provide a copyright notice or indicate any restrictions on use.
